To the birders who have lamented the lack of better photos, I also wish for better, but this is the best I have of this bird. Never-the-less, it is a Bufflehead. We had a 'scope on it as well as three birders with bird-glasses. All of us know the difference between this and other superficially similar birds. Next time I am up at Roque Bluffs I will return to the pond and hope to take a better photo, but given my skills and the tiny pocket-size Canon camera, there is no guarantee. Maybe one of the other birders in the Machias area will go take a look and a better photo.
