Margaret Viens and I were among the many birders lucky enough to see the continuing Chestnut-collared Longspur in its usual spot this morning.
Following that treat we went to Laudholm Farm in Wells, where Margaret said a White-eyed Vireo had been reported a week or so ago.
Sure enough, we heard the bird singing very near the junction of the Barrier Beach and the Knight Trails, but it was in the thick stuff and refused to show itself.
After a quick check of the beach we returned to the visitor center via the boardwalk. To our delight, the bird began signing again and, after a couple of minutes, took pity on us and permitted itself to be seen, but only briefly, not apparently wanting, despite its field marks, to make a spectacle of itself.
