to find a Gray Squirrel on "their" platform feeder.
(the squirrel shows up first thing EVERY morning so it was not a rare event.)
HOWEVER, The male and female had brought their fledgies to feed
and did not like that the squirrel was hogging the platform feeder.
The male and female Cardinals both repeatedly dive-bombed the squirrel,
in a vain attempt to chase it away.
(Meanwhile one of the braver "babies" watched from a nearby
perch on a Shepard's hook and the others waited in the river birch near by.)
Of course the squirrel to absolutely NO NOTICE and kept on munching away.
I do not know how the standoff resolved itself, since I had to leave for work,
but my bet is that the cardinals had to wait the squirrel out along with
the numerous other birds (gold finches, purple finches and sparrows)
and various other birdies waiting more patiently nearby in the trees.
