When the rain let up and the wind picked up from the northeast I decided to take a look at Unity Pond this morning. There was a sizable flock of medium-sized terns in a tight flock (initially). Eventually they dispersed and many seemed to disappear upward (back to the ocean?). I couldn't nail down the species although I would think they would almost certainly have been Common Terns. At the closest approach (~200 yards), I could see red bills but not a dark wedge in the wings on the closest birds. Hmmm.
Unfortunately the rain came back with a deluge which made further birding impossible. Pretty cool though.
Good birding,
tom
