Inspired by all the snow buntings in central Maine, I opted to try my luck
on the blueberry barrens in Columbia this afternoon. We encountered several
small flocks: 30, 15, 40. I expected a northern shrike on the fences of the
old backscatter radar site and arrived just in time to watch one chase a
junco out of sight.
