Visitors:
Easter Sunday brought out the families! 85 visitors were tallied, but
probably well over a hundred more people visited the summit over the course
of the day.
Weather:
We began the day with very light northeasterly winds, which slowly but
steadily rotated to the south, with the more productive SSE winds arriving
by 12:00EST. Clouds were few and far between for the first half of the
day, mostly limited to maritime clouds to our east. Southerly winds carried
some of those clouds closer in the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
The morning featured a slow but steady trickle of migrants on light
easterly winds, with a steady stream of birds developing after 12:00EST on
the southerly flow.
Local Broad-winged Hawks were particularly active today, and we saw a few
more local, wandering immature Bald Eagles.
Non-raptor Observations:
A mere 27 species were seen and/or heard from the summit today.
Other species deemed migrating were few, but the flow of swallows has
finally begun:
110 Tree Swallows
6 Double-crested Cormorants
1 Barn Swallow (FOY)
Predictions:
I don't want to jinx things, but yeah, that sounds awesome. As the high
pressure slides off to the east, we'll enjoy the warm flow on the backside
of the system. SW winds, perhaps becoming S by the end of the day. Clouds
are forecasted to thin out in the morning before rebuilding in the
afternoon. The duration of a SW component and the extent of cloud cover
will dictate just how good the day will be, but it could be a very, very
good Patriot's Day at The Brad.
