[Maine-birds] Rockland area, 12.20.14

Today was the Thomaston-Rockland Christmas Bird Count (CBC), and six of us birded a section that began at the Rockland Breakwater and ended on Beechwood St. in Thomaston. We saw 44 sp., a low count for us in this section, but the lack of snow cover didn't help.

Highlights of the day included:

Clay-colored Sparrow - 1, Samoset Rd. (A first for us in the 14-15 yrs we've done this CBC section)
Bohemian Waxwing - 9, Samoset Rd.
Ruddy Duck -1, Chickawaukie Lake
Gr. Scaup - at least 3, with 7 scaup sp., Chickawaukie Lake
Am. Coot - 148, Chickawaukie Lake
Common Redpoll - 9, Wellington Dr.
E. Bluebird - 9, Wellington Dr.
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 2

Good birding all, and happy holidays!
