[Maine-birds] Webber Pond, Bremen

the woodpeckers have been here daily for weeks--red-bellied, hairy, occasionally a downy,.  Two flickers spend a lot of time on the platform feeder and balance on the suet cage to reach other things.  The crows watch for scraps (and actually climbed onto the feeder two days ago); today they were arguing with a raven.  I've seen the usual mix of chickadees, tufted titmice, juncos, bluejays, and cardinals, and a crew of red-winged blackbirds (some immature) have been in and out.  the mallards have been here daily--especially in the snow--and were diving off shore yesterday.
Until last week I had missed the usual visiting  ducks (still no woodducks in the yard--too late now), but since last Wednesday, I have seen a hooded merganser pair, a ring-necked pair, and a common golden-eye just off shore.  The skim of ice that was forming has vanished, so maybe there is time for more.
