[Maine-birds] Plymouth Sandhill Cranes

This AM, I found a group of 3 Sandhill Cranes on my inlaws' farm on the Loud Road in Plymouth.  These were, no doubt, the same group seen last week in a nearby hay field off of the Flood Road.  The birds were feeding in my inlaws hayfield which was mown the previous day.

By skulking behind hay bales and farm equipment, I was able to get fairly close to the birds and watch them for quite a while.   It was my impression that one of the adults seemed notably smaller than the other but it was tough to tell for sure.  I got some fair pictures which can be seen through the link in the eBird list:

Anyone interested in checking the field for the cranes are welcome to visit the Bagley's farm at 255 Loud Road in Plymouth.  The house is on the north side of the road and only about 1/2 mile from the big fields at the intersection of the Loud and Flood Roads.  The 25 acre hay field is directly behind the barn.  Don't block the access road since the fields are being actively hayed....

Would like to hear the impressions of others that have seen these birds!

Cheers

Bill Sheehan
