[Maine-birds] Northern Maine Birds: Greater White-fronted Goose, Horned Grebe, Evening Grosbeaks

Early this AM there was an adult Greater White-fronted Goose at Collins Pond in Caribou.  The geese were departing to feed in the fields as I arrived and the bird was kind enough to stay just long enough for me to get some quick photos.  The goose had a bright orange bill and legs and the bold belly marks of the now-expected Greenland subspecies.  https://flic.kr/p/AFMSFQ

Also, for the third morning in a row here, I have heard flocks of Evening Grosbeaks flying over.  It seems they have shown up in numbers.

During my lunch, I checked the Mars Hill Pond for the Pink-footed Goose but had no luck.  There were less Canada Geese on the pond than usual.  The missing birds may have been out feeding in a local field or the birds may have departed southward.

Lake Jo in Easton had about 2,200 Canadas still, but no rare geese in the flocks.  A male Long-tailed Duck, a Horned Grebe and a high count of 13 Buffleheads were the other waterfowl of note here.  Almost like being at a bay on the coast!

Good Birding
