[Maine-birds] The Magic Bush at Green Point WMA

This dull and dreary day was brightened briefly by an amazing assemblage of birds feeding in the Magic Bush *.

Soon after an imm No. Shrike vacated his perch, the following descended together to begin feeding:

15 Robins
7 Pine Grosbeaks
1 Balt Oriole
1 non-male No Cardinal
1 Fox Sparrow (an observer , not a feeder)

As I approached, the Robins split, leaving the others behind to pose for photos.

Jay and Gordon were also witness to this bunch, tho' they may have slightly different totals.
The sexual composition betw the various groups of Pine Grosbeaks has differed between obs., indicating there are many more around.  Today's group included more (imm) males than the group a few days ago.  I've yet to see an adult male, however.

* Look for this Crabapple, growing in a bush habit, to the right of the incline down to the cider house.  For years, it has attracted frugivores, especially late in the fall.  If there are BoWax anywhere in the county, they'll be here.  I have not seen this Crab growing anywhere else on the property, and wonder if the orig owners of the orchard planted it as an ornamental?
