Yesterday we arrived at the causeway at 1:21 pm and thoroughly searched for the skimmers, caspian terns, and royal tern. we left after just over 2 hours of searching, without finding anything interesting except a banded herring gull (CNZ) and a ring-billed gull with one leg. It turns out, however, that all three of the skimmers, the royal tern, and TEN caspian terns were seen on the beach where we spent over two hours searching, right after we left, by quite a few other birders.
-- I just realized that i have not seen a rare bird since the end of JUNE (besides a YCNH at great pond, but they can be expected there). I have made five trips to try and find the American Avocets that were in scarborough, two for the wilson's phalaropes, four for a western sandpiper, one for the buff-breasted sandpiper, two for the black skimmers, and now the my first time for the caspian and royal terns. What do these birds have against me?!
I hope these birds decide to show up for the rest of you, and happy birding!
