Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 16:00:00 Total observation time: 8 hours Official Counter Luke Fultz Observers: Derek Lovitch, Jim Pinfold
Visitors:
20 people visited the hawk watch today.
Weather:
Sunshine and mixed clouds early, quickly becoming mostly cloudy through the better part of the day. Moderate to strong west winds persisted through the count, accompanied by very heavy gusts at times.
Raptor Observations:
Migration activity as well as local bird activity was extremely sparse. Strong winds kept birds low. Local Turkey Vultures and several local Bald Eagles were the only avian species braving the skies, and even that was few and far between. Highlight of the day was a Northern Harrier that flew through near the beginning of the last hour.
Non-raptor Observations:
33 species were observed from the summit. Individuals deemed migrating included: 3 Tree Swallows 2 Yellow-rumped Warblers
Predictions:
Light southwest winds early, quickly shifting south through the morning, becoming southeast by mid-day and continuing from the southeast. Precipitation likely by noon tomorrow with some chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. If wind predictions hold, I expect to see some birds moving before the storm hits.
