Visitors:
11 people visited the hawk watch today.
Weather:
A breezy day on the summit. Winds were a bit stronger than hoped for out of the west, becoming gusty at times in the afternoon. Despite the gusty winds, it was a really nice day. At least the wind kept the black flies at bay.
Raptor Observations:
Very limited migration activity with winds becoming quite strong at times. A few of the local birds on territory gave a show, such as, a Cooper's Hawk exhibiting display flight and a very vocal Broad-winged Hawk chasing some of the migrants crossing its turf.
Non-raptor Observations:
37 species were observed from the summit today. Individuals deemed migrating included: 2 Chimney Swifts 8 Tree Swallows 2 American Black Ducks 1 swallow sp.
Predictions:
Quite a bit cooler tomorrow. Steady precipitation in the morning, diminishing pretty quickly into the afternoon. Winds are expected to be strong out of the northwest, accompanied by heavy gusts at times making for a breezy afternoon. Migration activity is expected to be rather limited tomorrow, depending on what this storm system ends up doing and how quickly it moves out of the area.
