Hi everyone:
Last weeks results: Overall numbers got a little skewed because of a large data upload, but the results are amazing. Check out the Bald Eagle map now that MDIF&W aerial surveys have been added (bumping up the number of confirmed blocks by 394): https://ebird.org/atlasme/map/baleag For our challenges, lots of people heard Ruffed Grouse drumming with 50 probable records submitted, 14 confirmed grackle records, and three people confirmed Brown Creeper! Congrats to Craig from Southwest Harbor, Scott in Berwick, and Christine from Lewiston for being chosen by excel's random number generator as winners this week! (I'm behind on prizes so new winner will hear from me shortly!)
Here are the challenges for this week:
1) Tufted Titmouse - fairly common in the region that they occur and the map is looking good but let's make it great. Can you confirm Tufted Titmouse this week (bonus points for new blocks): https://ebird.org/atlasme/map/tuftit
2) Pileated Woodpecker - we are in the safe dates for this species now so all codes are acceptable. Remember that drumming is considered a woodpecker's "song", that might help you get S7s. Any coded Pileated put you in the running but let's try to fill in these gaps or bump up current codes: https://ebird.org/atlasme/map/pilwoo
3) Louisiana Waterthrush - this species has been back in Maine for a few weeks but we are now in the safe dates, so start coding singing birds! Stake them out now so that you know where to look for confirmed codes later this year.
Good birding and happy atlasing!
