At one point I had 5 BALTIMORE & 2 ORCHARD ORIOLES feeding on the patio. Also present were 3 CATBIRDS, 3 male ROSE BREASTED GROSBEAKS and a BROWN THRASHER popped in and out a couple times.
Warblers showed well with 10 species hawking & foraging for insects around the buildings.
PEREGRINES were seen throughout the day, along with 4-5 MERLINS and at least 2 HARRIERS.
Most of the colour has moved on and were replaced today by warblers: YELLOW; YELLOW THROATED; YELLOW RUMPED; COMMON YELLOWTHROAT; BLACK & WHITE; BLACKPOLL; CHESTNUT SIDED; BAY BREASTED; WILSON'S; CANADA; MAGNOLIA;, BLACKBURNIAN; BLACK THROATED GREEN; BLACK THROATED BLUE WARBLERS; NORTHERN PARULA; OVENBIRD; & REDSTART.
Raptors continued today, as well.
Several PEREGRINES strafed the island. My best guess is 5 individuals.
At least 7 MERLINS passed through, with 5 here at one point.
BIRD OF THE DAY: A second year (presumed female) BALD EAGLE which moved around the island, half-heartedly trying for Alcid lunch.
At one point this afternoon its curiosity brought it to our patio where it tried to perch on the BBQ. That proved too slippery so she settled for the picnic table. After some 15 minutes she moved off to check the Razorbills & Puffins further up the island.
I don't consider myself a Lister but for you real die-hard Listers, here's a challenge. I believe that this Eagle makes 108 species which I've had on my BBQ over the years. What's your total for BBQ bird species?
