Hi crow lovers,
I was travelling south on I-95 and encountered a 5-mile long flock of crows moving toward their roost located off of the Waterville mile 130 exit (Main Street?). Conservatively, there were between 1,200 and1,500 birds per mile. I could not come up with a good estimate because my car tends to curve to the right when I am looking left, a product of ageing. I used to be able to drive all day using my peripheral vision to keep track of the road. At the Waterville exit there were thousands of birds already at the roost or pre-roost, part of which was in view on the west side of the road. There were also several long strings of crows coming in from different directions.
The time was about 4:10 PM. I also had a good-sized flock flowing across the road just after the Newport town line on the road heading toward Moosehead Lake.
Happy counting!
Crows are cool.
