[Maine-birds] More gannets galore (and fulmar, too!)

Inspired by Bill Townsend’s “Gannets galore” post, I closed shop for a few hours to plop myself down on Otter Cliff, Acadia National Park, and watch the gannets. I decided to treat it as a proper seabird watch, counting birds for an hour from 11:30-12:30. The highlights were split between  the high numbers of gannet and two Northern Fulmar!  The list:

64 Common Eider

3 Black Scoter

7 Common Loon

0 grebes – I was surprised not to find any

2 Northern Fulmar – These two birds were scoped far off, skirting the edge of the fog-bank. Both were light morphs.

83 Northern Gannet

1 Double-crested Cormorant

11 Great Cormorant

2 Black Guillemot

18 Herring Gull

2 Great Black-backed Gull

1 Black-capped Chickadee

1 Song Sparrow
