Re: [Maine-birds] E-bird Gadget

Hey everyone:

While this is being brought up, I did want to make sure people are aware that eBird itself has a page that largely drives what you are seeing in the BirdTrax gadget. Within the 'Explore Data' tab (http://ebird.org/ebird/eBirdReports) you will find a link for 'Alerts' at the bottom of the page (http://ebird.org/ebird/alerts). From there you can signup for or just view 'Rare Bird Alerts' or 'Needs Alerts' for any county, state/province, or country.

While the gadget is convenient, I prefer these sites which also show all embedded media (photos, video, audio). Here is a link for the state-wide rare bird alert for Maine: http://ebird.org/ebird/alert/summary?sid=SN35688

I highly recommend playing around on that 'Explore Data' tab (http://ebird.org/ebird/eBirdReports) because there is a lot of cool stuff for anyone to use. I don't remember if it was mentioned on the listserv before but the new 'Hotspot Explorer' is an awesome tool to discover new birding places or explore what birds are being seen at your local patch. Here is a full article on this new tool: http://ebird.org/content/me/news/introducing-the-ebird-hotspot-explorer/

Good birding,
