Hi all,
Some more observations of note from me over the past seven days included:
- 2 CACKLING GEESE continue in the "Greater Yarmouth Goose Fields," most often off of Greely Road in Cumberland through at least 4/7.
- 1 Northern Shrike and 9+ American Woodocks, Pineland Farms, New Gloucester (during our annual "Woodcocks Gone Wild" field trip).
- 7 Northern Shovelers, Wharton Point, Brunswick, 4/7.
- 140+ Wood Ducks, 60+ Green-winged Teal, 51 Ring-necked Ducks, etc, Rte 136, Durham, 4/8 (with Katrina Fenton).
- 1 Gadwall, Florida Lake Park, Freeport, 4/10 (my 151st species here!).
- 43 Purple Sandpipers, Fort Foster, Kittery, 4/11.
Personal "FOYs" this week included:
- 2 Osprey, Bradbury Mountain Spring Hawkwatch, 4/6.
- 1American Kestrel, Thornhurst Farm, North Yarmouth, 4/7.
- 1 Wilson's Snipe, Greely Road, Cumberland, 4/7.
- 1 Greater Yellowlegs, Wharton Point, 4/8.
- 1Pied-billed Grebe, mouth of the Abagadasset River, Bowdoinham, 4/8.
- 1 Chipping Sparrow, Hedgehog Mountain Park, Freeport, 4/9.
- 1Rusty Blackbird, Hedgehog Mountain Park, 4/9.
- 16 Northern Flickers, over Maine TPK between Kennebunk and Kittery, 4/11.
- 4 Field Sparrows, Fort Foster, 4/11.
- 3 Savannah Sparrows, Fort Foster, 4/11.
- 1 Palm Warbler, Fort Foster, 4/11.
- 6 Swamp Sparrows, Fort Foster, 4/11.
Other returning migrants noted this week included Golden-crowned Kinglet and Purple Finches, both of which were nearly absent locally for most of the winter.
