Hoping the rain yesterday and fog this morning might lead to some good birds, I spent a few hours early this morning at the Arboretum and along the Kennebec river in Augusta. Unfortunately, I didn't come across much that hasn't already been seen in the area, but I did see Bluebirds making a nest, my first Sapsuckers of the spring, and my first Augusta Kingfishers and White-Throated Sparrows of the year.
-- Some times, the best birds are right at your door, however. At home there were Woodcock, Sapsuckers, Chipping Sparrows, and Barred Owls (3 nights in a row, plus a pair calling at exactly 12 noon today--right after I chanced upon a drowsy one near my driveway. Maybe they were singing "who woke me up?" instead of their usual "who cooks for you" song.)
