Official Counter: Katrina Fenton
Observers: Zane Baker
Visitors:
Eleven intrepid visitors wouldn't let a little damp weather keep them from
enjoying some time at the hawkwatch.
Weather:
A drizzly morning turned to rain, then a foggy afternoon. Tendrils of cloud
seemed to catch themselves in the pines as they were gently pushed by a
light ESE wind. In the final hour of the count, the overcast began to break
apart as the wind shifted to come out of the south, a little too late to
tempt raptors to the skies. Temperatures were stuck in the low to mid-40s
thanks to the damp ocean air.
Raptor Observations:
A lone Osprey vanishing into the milky gray was the only migrant to be
counted. A local Turkey Vulture doubled the number of raptor species
recorded for the day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Two Canada Geese and two Common Mergansers were the other migrants of the
day.
Predictions:
The warmer weather returns with partly-cloudy skies and temperatures rising
into the 60s. The wind will be out of the SSW, increasing to 15-25mph.
There should be birds ready to move after today and ahead of Tuesday's
rain, and if the wind stays on the lighter side, we could see a good
flight.
