> Weather:
> Clear skies in the morning became striated with con-tails and wispy white.
> Later in the afternoon, a thicker swath of clouds approached in advance of
> tonight's storm. Temperatures peaked in the low 40's before being chased
> back down to the 30's when the wind picked up. The wind was light out of
> the east to start, then a stiff sea breeze kicked up out of the south
> around noon.
>
> Raptor Observations:
> The wind ended up being a bit too strong once it shifted to a more
> favorable direction for migrants. Most of the Northern Harriers came
> through below eye level, and Sharp-shinned Hawks found themselves tossed
> around in the gusts. A flash of blue that took the form of a Merlin
> streaked in front of the hawkwatch to close out the day.
>
> Non-raptor Observations:
> There were no first-of-years in today's 31 species. Tree Swallows spun
> around an Osprey over the summit, and a Pileated Woodpecker chuckled from
> the trees at the hawkwatchers left out in the wind.
>
> Non-raptor Migrants:
> Canada Goose- 93 Common Merganser- 6
> Ring-billed Gull- 6 Tree Swallow- 7
> American Robin- 30 Common Grackle- 5
> American Goldfinch- 1 Purple Finch- 2
>
> Predictions:
> It looks like the rain will clear out sometime tomorrow morning. Behind it,
> the wind will be westerly at 10-15mph, and skies will be clearing. It looks
> like it could be a good day for migrants once we dry out!
