[Maine-birds] Gardiner area open-water birds

Some birds from the limited open water yesterday in the Gardiner-ish area:

250 Common Mergansers and 1 red-breasted Merganser in the Kennebec near downtown Hallowell, also a couple of Bald Eagles eating the same small fish (smelts?) and one beaver having a snack on the shore ice. A couple of wood ducks and some double-crested cormorants and Common Goldeneyes. Fun to see the birds among the ice floes.

40 Ring-necked ducks in Cobbosee Stream, above New Mills Dam (~West Hill Rd and Rte 9).

Some variety, but low numbers of ducks etc. (Ring-necked, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Great-blue Heron) in the small amount of open water on Pleasant Pond at Thorofare Rd.

Northern Harrier in the fields beside the highway in West Gardiner.

Green Point WMA, some ducks on the mud flats, but mostly far away and in the sun with low tide. Several immature eagles and a Northern Harrier. A few wood ducks along the dirt road to the point.
