I was probably more pleased to see two killdeer back at Belgrade Central School than they were to be there. The only open ground is along the road edge. Also had overly optimistic killdeer along the Oakland Road and at my house when I arrived home. They must have been looking at the calendar rather than the actual conditions when they booked their flights.
My walk after work was kind of epic (well, epic for here, for this spring): the kestrel has arrived back at the Goodhue farm, rw blackbirds and grackles were "singing" and I flushed a woodcock from a ditch along the Goodhue Road. Robins are everywhere. Also had six juncos under my feeder this afternoon--first since last fall.
Yesterday I had cedar waxwings outside one of my classroom windows and got to teach the kids the word frugivore. They thought that was pretty funny.
