Hi,
I stopped my Messalongskee Marsh yesterday with hopes of picking up a Sandhill crane and some marsh birds. It was a very frozen marsh except for the channel above the bridge which had a fair waterfowl population.
I picked up the following birds:
Tree swallows 10+ - many locations around the edge of the marsh and surrounding village; all but two were single birds
Osprey 1
Eastern phoebe 2
Song sparrows 3
Eastern bluebird 1 -Next to the purple martin houses
House sparrows ~20; a group of 10 group-dusting in the village section
Bald eagles 3 imm
Red-wing blackbirds ~150
Common grackles ~40
Am robins ~20
Black-capped chickadee 1
House finch 2
Northern cardinal 1
Am crow 3
Common raven 1
Ring necked ducks
Gadwall 1
Common mergansers 45 - good estimate; probably another 10
Hooded mergansers 20 - Conservative
Common goldeneyes 6
Green-winged teal 1
Black duck 8
Canada geese ~75
Ring-billed gulls 2
Herring gulls 2
Good birding,
Norm
