Getting re-aquainted is little more than "Hi, good to see you made it back safely. How was your vacation?" The female usually requires her mate to prove again that he is a good provider for her intended family each year, making certain he hasn't lost the ability to bring lots and lots of food to the nest, but they know each other on first sight and at some distance.
