The water levels in the big wetlands at Moosehorn NWR along Route 1 in Calais/Baring are extremely high because the St. Croix River is overflowing and has backed up water into the wetlands.  One dike is completely submerged, and another is nearly so.  The birds didn't seem to mind though.  The teal and kingfishers were feeding in the flooded fields.  Here are some of the birds we saw there today:

Bald eagles
ospreys
American kestrel
pied-billed grebe (FOY)
American wigeon male and female (FOY) at McLaughlin
black ducks
mallards
green-winged teal
common goldeneyes
hooded mergansers
Canada geese
dc cormorants
belted kingfishers (FOY)
tree swallows (FOY)
