The late-ending winter has seemed to have made a little difference to migrant returns this year.
-- As usual, first was the Phoebe, about a month ago, but this year no sign of the usually accompanying Pewee. Neither did I see the usual progression of Redstarts, Rumpies and Palm Warblers roll through on their way up north a few days later.
The woods however are full of Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Hermit Thrush and Ovenbird calls.
This week's arrivals were the Indigo Bunting, Great-crested Flycatcher and Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
Only returnee still missing are our Red-eyed Vireo and Pine Warbler but I think the latter is usually only heard singing when its warmer.
Cheers
