[Maine-birds] No Pacific Loon - East Point

Dipped on Pacific Loon off East Point yesterday morning; in a biting wind. I did, however, watch a fly-by loon (N to S) as I was walking out, that looked very good for Pacific Loon. Small feet, small-bodied, strongly B&W body-head contrast, short, straight bill. I had recently seen Tom Johnson's shot of 6 fly-by PacLoons in CA, and this bird looked very similar.

A hover-hunting Rough-legged Hawk was working Wood Island. On the return walk, a Dickcissel was chet-cheting in the thick brush along the trail, finally showing itself briefly flying back toward the golf course. It may join the House Sparrows at the nearby feeders.
