[Maine-birds] Townsend's solitaire

Townsend's solitaire at 3:30 today, 12/1/14. Florida Lake.

This was our third trip in to try to see the bird. Success!
It came in quietly to the large pine with multiflora rose at its base. Stayed in the top of the
tree for a long time, perched out on a dead limb so we had clear views. Finally dropped into
the tangle at the base of the tree. The sky was graying, western sun shining on the tops of
the trees across the lake turning their branches red, cattails standing sentinel among
melting snow, moon at half, all made for a beautiful
sight…..we could see the colors on the bird's side, wings, and eye ring clearly.
