[Maine-birds] Andro County 8 Species Waterfowl, FOY's

Hello All,

Stellar day for early spring arrivals in Androscoggin County today.

8 Species of waterfowl (and hybrid Black x Mallard) included Canada Geese, Common Goldeneye, Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Mallard and Black Duck in multiple locations.  Ring-necked Duck drake from Auburn Riverwalk and also in downtown Sabattus near the school.  Also at the latter location a pair of American Widgeon-- drake with a buffy "pate" as described by Sibley but also with strongly marked side of grayish head so not Eurasian.  While watching ducks a Common Grackle and four cowbirds were seen.

North River Road in Auburn produced 10 Killdeer foraging in a field, two Red-winged Blackbirds, Canada Geese and an Eastern Bluebird at a usual nesting location.

With the rain this evening the cornfields along River Road in Durham could be good for waterfowl.  Close to 50 Canada Geese and some Blacks and Mallards there today.  Wood Duck, Pintail and Northern Shoveler have been seen here in the past.  Use great care in pulling off the road--lots of traffic and construction has left unstable substrate in some areas.
