A few weeks ago, when I mentioned to my wife we had a banded goldfinch in the yard, she said "I've never heard of one of those." That gave me a chance to imagine what one might look like.
Now I've seen it for the third time. It's the first blue — not silver — metal band I have seen. It's on the right leg. If anyone knows whether the blue bands are specific to a project, bander, or locality, I'd be interested in hearing about it. I've fantasized about reading the band through binoculars, but it's rarely visible beneath feathers and the bird doesn't tend to sit still for very long. Because I don't have a band number, and the fact it isn't an auxiliary marker, I assume the BBL won't be "interested."
