Visitors:
13.
Weather:
Another chilly one, though the wind wasn't as forceful. Temperatures
started off around 20, and took there time warming to just above freezing.
A thin film of couds slowly covered the sky from west to east, thickening
as the day went on but still opaque enough to let some sun through.
Raptor Observations:
A morning dominated by Turkey Vultures, with a few buteos sprinkled in in
the afternoon. The local eagles showed themselves several times, providing
a few breaks between lulls in the migrant action.
Non-raptor Observations:
The first two SANDHILL CRANES of the season were spotted today, circling up
in the southwest then streaming high in front of the mountain. This pair
was well ahead of the typical April dates when we expect them to show up.
Non-raptor migrants:
Canada Goose- 2
Sandhill Crane- 2
American Crow- 15
finch sp.- 4
passerine sp.- 4
Predictions:
No count tomorrow with a snowstorm moving through. We could see 10+ inches
of snow from tonight through Tuesday night with brisk 15-20mph northeast
winds on Tuesday. It looks like the storm should clear out in plenty of
time on Wednesday, when our 100th migrant raptor of the season will be
counted.
