After reading the email from NH about a possible N. Lapwing report I went
over to check out the sod farm. Seeing the killdeer is a good sign because
the 3 in NJ feed in a field with killdeer.
I asked a birder in Europe about Lapwing migration and he said they migrate
in March/April depending on weather and snow cover.
Ebird reports have 3 in Mass. today, one in Persons, NC on the 9th of
March, and three in NJ yesterday. The bird in GA has not been reported for
2 or 3 weeks. I am assuming they need to migrate thru Maine on their way
home, or come and vacation in Maine.
The snow varies 2 to 6 inches, and lots of mud on the dirt roads.
