Re: [Maine-birds] Re: ticks already

I apologize to all if I have inadvertently perpetuated what is essentially an off-topic discussion. I certainly wasn't trying to diminish the seriousness of Lyme disease or provide UNTRUE facts. I am not an advocate for the CDC (or even the NYT for that matter, though I felt their information sheet was particularly well done). I was merely trying to propose that we use common sense when we go outside--to look for birds!--and not panic about ticks. I don't think anyone is disagreeing that chronic post-Lyme syndrome is serious. But outdoor activities--such as birding!--naturally expose us to all sorts of things that might harm us.

Best wishes with your health, Dan.

The CDC is is in denial about almost all of the TRUE facts about Lyme and all the other tick born diseases. I've been battling chronic lyme disease for years now and I've seen all of the untruths are still being taught to people and it is a shame. This disease is 1000 times worse than doctors and the CDC believe it to be.
People need to see a naturopath that specializes in Lyme, you'd be blown away! Forget all of these previous beliefs about Lyme and keep a very open mind and it could save your life. Another myth is taking antibiotics for a month or less is all you need when the rash first appears. The Lyme bacteria lives on a six week cycle so anything less than two months of antibiotics will make you feel better temporarily, but months or even years later you'll start to get some really strange symptoms and no regular doctor would ever think of Lyme.
Google "chronic lyme disease" and you'll see that there is a whole internet world out there full of info. Don't click on the CDC sites, they still have no idea as to what is really going on with all tick born diseases.
When the Lyme was at its worst and right before I was diagnosed, I missed at least 6 months of work because of it. In my case, as well as many others, the bacteria attacked my brain, called "neuorological lyme"( you can Google that as well), mr brain, simply, could not function.
For those of us that love the outdoors, protect your self, diligently, and keep an open mind and educate yourself about this horrible disease and maybe, you won't end up in a wheelchair or bed for the rest of your life.
You can watch this video if you choose...it is all very real. Trust me, I wish that it wasn't.

for all of you who will soon be thrashing about in the weeds, I just took a deer tick from my leg. I had just gone out to the compost pile, no further. There is still plenty of snow on the ground. So, due diligence required already,
