Three Pines Bird Sanctuary 2013, Hancock, US-ME
May 27, 2013 6:10 PM
Protocol: Incidental
Comments:     Graham and I were working on the wood shed when a Common Nighthawk flew over Three Pines calling several times while insect eating. Town Hill has plenty of insects and water around. One thing that has recently happen is another wetland habitat has been destroyed and altered on the KNOX ROAD 109...the east side. Habitat important for Hermit Thrush, Ovenbird , Blue-headed Vireo.
At the edge of this CLEARCUT Property is the Upper watershed of Northeast Creek Watershed. Water flowing off of Town Hill and out through the "backyard" of this new house. The smaller watershed which has been recently hacked in half by the driveway is the headwaters for Meadowbrook which flows West into Blue Hill Bay... So a House will be put on the Northeast Creek watershed with the septic flowing into Northeast Creek. The driveway is affecting the headwaters of two brook systems. The location is an interesting geological location as a result of the Wisconsian Glacier where water off of Town Hill is separated into Blue Hill Bay and Northeast Creek. Town Hill is surrounded by important wetlands that flow into the Clam Flats and Lobster beds and the FISHERIES...... around the northern side of MDI. Logical development and PLANNING must be applied to Town Hill especially at the northern end of the island which is another important ecological region that should be left as RURAL DEVELOPMENT.... and develop the Town Hill Business District. The Bar Harbor Planning Board has no conceptual idea about the ecological systems that will be affected by commercial development.
