[Maine-birds] Additional Highlights and Shorebird High Counts This Week, 8/17-23

Hi all,

The only non-shorebird observation of note from me in the past seven days - beyond what I have already reported - would be a single FORSTER'S TERN at Pine Point, Scarborough on 8/20 (with Jeannette).  Shorebirds on the other hand...

 

My shorebird high counts this week:

Black-bellied Plover: 87 (most if not all adults) - Pine Point, 8/20 (with Jeannette).

Semipalmated Plover: 257 - Pine Point, 8/20 (with Jeannette)/ ~300 - Popham Beach State Park, Phippsburg, 8/23 (with clients).

Piping Plover: 5 (4 juv, 1 adults) - Popham Beach SP, 8/23 (with clients).

Killdeer: 13 - Highland Road, Brunswick, 8/18.

AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER: 4 (two adults with 2 juveniles) - Pine Point, 8/20 (with Jeannette).

Greater Yellowlegs: 24 - Eastern Road, 8/19.

Lesser Yellowlegs: 47 (mostly juveniles) - Eastern Road, 8/19.

"Eastern" Willet: 2 juveniles - Pine Point, 8/20 (with Jeannette).

Whimbrel: 3 - Pine Point, 8/20 (with Jeannette).

Ruddy Turnstone: 1 juvenile - Popham Beach SP, 8/23 (with clients).

Sanderling: 80-100 - Popham Beach SP, 8/23 (with clients).

Semipalmated Sandpiper: 1800-2000 - Popham Beach SP, 8/23 (with clients).

Least Sandpiper: 200 (mostly juvenile) - Eastern Road, 8/19.

STILT SANDPIPER: 1 adult and 1 juvenile -Eastern Road, 8/19.

White-rumped Sandpiper: 45 adults - Eastern Road, 8/19.

BAIRD'S SANDPIPER: 1 (age unknown) - Weskeag Marsh, Thomaston, 8/18 (with Kristen Lindquist).

Pectoral Sandpiper: 1 juv - Popham Beach S.P, 8/23 (with clients).

Short-billed Dowitcher: 47  (all juvenile) -  Eastern Road, 8/19.

RED-NECKED PHALAROPE: 1 juvenile - Eastern Road, 8/19 (photos) AND 1 on the beach at Popham Beach SP, 8/23 (with clients; photos).
