[Maine-birds] Little Egret: NO

Posting in hope of helping others looking for this bird:

We came up empty in several days of intense searching for the Little Egret from Sunday 7/12 through Thursday 7/16.  On Sunday, we looked at North Meadow, Providence Avenue and Tidewater Farm to no avail and talked with three Vermont birders who had been at North Meadow all day also without success.  Monday morning, Tim Fennell video'ed the bird on marsh grass just before high tide at the end of Providence Avenue.  It was reported to e-Bird rarities from Tidewater Farm that afternoon about an hour after low tide.

We searched Tuesday late afternoon at a rising mid-tide at Providence Avenue, and Tidewater Farm, and we coordinated with SC birder Steve Patterson as he searched North Meadow, South Meadow and Back Cove.  We found an Egretta egret with very, very little yellow in the face, but based on the lack of the characteristic two plumes on the hindneck, concluded that it was a young Snowy. We visited these same spots virtually all day Wednesday except for a mid-day dead-low tide lunch break.  By now there were very few egrets of any sort seen at any of these sites at any stage of tide.

This morning (Wednesday) we looked at Providence Ave and Tidewater Farm and found only a single distant Egretta, sp? that got away from us flying north along the creek that exits at the Tidewater Farm overlook.

Perhaps there is another feeding area that has attracted the egrets away from the original sighting area.

In any event, our thanks to all the kind folks who helped with their experiences and their generous nature.  Good birding, friends!
