[Maine-birds] Northern Maine Birds: Barnacle Geese refound in NY

I was alerted by Gretchen Nareff to the discovery of a pair of Barnacle Geese found in upstate New York yesterday afternoon.  They are visiting  the Cedarville Road Pond in Herkimer.

Plumage characteristics show these to almost-certainly be the Caribou birds which were not seen after Thursday last week.  You can see a picture of them in their new digs here:

Another Greenland Greater White-fronted Goose was in Collins Pond yesterday.  This adult appears to be a different bird than the one seen here last week.  The gull flock at Collins Pond is increasingly interesting with at least 5 different Lesser Black-backed Gulls and at least one young Kumlien's Iceland Gull.  A late Belted Kingfisher and a Lincoln's Sparrow were seen here Saturday.

Evening Grosbeak numbers are increasing locally which seems early...it might be another good winter for these.  A Fox Sparrow is scratching in the snow with the Juncos this AM and yesterday I saw two Turkey Vultures riding the wind southward.  These were my latest ever for northern Maine.

Good Birding
