[Maine-birds] Monhegan Island, 4-7 Nov

Hi everyone:

I had the pleasure of birding Monhegan Island over a long weekend (4-7 Nov) with Josh Fecteau, Fyn Kynd, and Louis Bevier. We managed to find 91 species, with 13 species of warblers. Here are a few highlights:

Greater Scaup - surprisingly few records for the Island, we had one flying past Lobster Cove
Cooper's Hawk - uncommon; a Northern Goshawk was photographed earlier last week but we never connected with it.
Eastern Phoebe - getting late. Seen daily
Northern Shrike - presumably the same juvenile bird seen most days
Blue-headed Vireo - late; at least two birds on the island
Red-eyed Vireo - late; one VERY tired individual on the 7th
White-breasted Nuthatch - sometimes uncommon on the island, these were surprisingly abundant
Gray Catbird - getting late
Bohemian Waxwing - single fly-over on the 5th; island bird for us
Northern Waterthrush - late; loudly calling individual near the edge of the Lobster Cove marsh
Tennessee Warbler - late; single bird that Josh spotted near the Lupine Gallery
Orange-crowned Warbler - 2-3 individuals; pretty reliable on the island in November
Nashville Warbler - late; 2 birds around town
Northern Parula - late; briefly seen south of Donna's
Yellow Warbler - late; throughout town on the 7th
Black-throated Blue Warbler - one of our first birds coming off the boat
Palm Warbler - mostly 'Western' birds and one 'Yellow'
Pine Warbler - still fairly abundant; at least 5
Yellow-rumped Warbler - common
Prairie Warbler - 2 birds on the 4th
Black-throated Green Warbler - single bird on the 7th
Yellow-breasted Chat - great spotting by Louis of this skulky bird
Lark Sparrow - feeder bird
Lincoln's Sparrow - late; briefly seen on the edge of the meadow
Dickcissel - tame bird in town on the 4th
Bobolink - late; very lethargic bird around town on the 5th and 6th
Rusty Blackbird - 3-4 birds seen a couple of days
Common Grackle - decent flocks (60+) visiting feeders
Baltimore Oriole - three on the 4th
White-winged Crossbill - small groups
Evening Grosbeak - pair on our feeders; expected more given the southern movements we've been seeing
