Hi all,
Marion Sprague and I combed the coast between Biddeford Pool and Cape Elizabeth today, focusing on thickets and vagrant traps, accumulating an impressive array of late/lingering/pioneering migrants, continued good numbers and diversity of sparrows, and other species of note. The highlights:
-Saco Riverwalk:
1 immature female BALTIMORE ORIOLE
1 Hermit Thrush
1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet
1 Swamp Sparrow
- 2 SNOWY OWLS, Biddeford Pool area (first of season).
- Biddeford Pool neighborhood:
2 Chipping Sparrows
1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet
1 Fox Sparrow
88 Red-necked Grebes
- Grondin Pond, Scarborough:
1 female WOOD DUCK
1 female Lesser Scaup
4 Ring-necked Ducks
- Kettle Cove, Cape Elizabeth:
1 "Ipswich" Savannah Sparrow
1 New England Cottontail (E; reintroduced)
1 Swamp Sparrow
- Dyer Point, Cape Elizabeth:
1 imm Northern Shrike (First of season)
18 Harlequin Ducks
-Pond Cove, Cape Elizabeth:
1 EASTERN PHOEBE
1 GRAY CATBIRD
1 "Yellow" Palm Warbler
2 Ruby-crowned Kinglets
2 Fox Sparrows
Scattered Yellow-rumped Warblers were our only other warbler on the day, surprisingly.
-Derek
