[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights and Goose Fields Update, 11/10-16

Hi all,
My observations of note, limited by weather and free time, over the past seven days included:
- 8 species of native sparrows have been at our feeders here at the store this week, including a tardy adult White-crowned Sparrow continuing through 11/12 with a new immature arriving on the 16th; 1 Chipping Sparrow arriving on 11/13, with a second on 11/14 and both continuing through 11/15; and a Fox Sparrow all week. One Swamp Sparrow continuing through 11/12 is an unusual feeder visitor for us here.
- 2 "Yellow" Palm Warblers, 11 Black-bellied Plovers, etc, Wolfe's Neck Center, 11/11.
- Peak's Island, 11/12:
1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER
1 GRAY CATBIRD
2 Winter Wrens
2 Ruby-crowned Kinglets
3 Chipping Sparrows
1 Brown-headed Cowbird
- Sabattus Pond, Sabattus, 11/15:
457 Ruddy Ducks
186 Mallards
100+ Common Mergansers
82 American Black Ducks
64 Hooded Mergansers
55 Greater Scaup
53 Canada Geese
32 Lesser Scaup
15 Buffleheads
5 LONG-TAILED DUCKS
4 Mallard x black duck hybrids
4 Common Goldeneyes
3 Ring-necked Ducks
1 Great Blue Heron
1 Common Loon

Meanwhile, in the Greater Yarmouth Goose Fields, the adult GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE continued through at least the beginning of the week, but there have been no additional sightings of the CACKLING GOOSE I found there last week.  Overall, Canada Goose numbers were down, with a high count of merely 342 on 11/14. I expect another wave to arrive with accumulating snow and ice to our north now.

-Derek
