Re: [Maine-birds] Sebasticook River Benton - Friday

That dam is awful. It should never have been built the way it was constructed.

I paddled the Sebasticook River from Clinton to Benton Falls Dam today looking for a missing canoe for a friend from Clinton.  I saw a few eagles, lots of ducks (common types) and geese (on land, on water and flying).  The surprise was seeing 3 great blue herons, one belted kingfisher, and many hundreds of gulls around the dam in the air and water.  There must be lots of alewives in the river, going over the spillway and through the turbine making chopped fish.  I did not look for eagles below the dam, but I am sure there are many downstream enjoying the feast.  We did not find the canoe.  It was a great paddle with some good class 3 white water in a few places.  The river is up.  The water was cold and the winds were light.
