Sometimes when there is a spring snow and the robins look perplexed I put out raisins for them, in likely spots like under crab apple trees where they might search for downed fruit. So when a couple of hermit thrushes were perched on our deck one day a week or more ago, eyeing us, I thought to put some raisins out for them after they left. One looked to be a youngster, the other I presume was a parent. Later we saw a thrush downing the raisins on the deck, and again later-- three times in all.
It continued intermittently the next few days and then Dave spotted a hermit thrush this morning and put raisins out and 15 minute later there was a thrush throwing back raisins-- it got at least five. So I don't know if this is all the same thrush or two or different ones moving thru. I've noticed that they seem to act more like robins than thrushes when on migration hanging around in gardens and lawn. A couple days ago I observed one doing "shaky foot" in the lawn, which is supposedly the thrush scaring up bugs. It did seem to be getting something!
