[Maine-birds] Golden Eagle--Scarborough

This afternoon I stopped by a small sand pit off Broadturn Rd. in
Scarborough. There weren't very many birds but as I was looking at 3
Bluebirds I saw a large dark bird soaring with a slight dihedral far off
in the distance. I soon realized it was an eagle and watched it for
several minutes as it came closer and passed directly overhead high up.
It had soared with large, lazy circles initially, then effortlessly
glided on a light NW wind. It did no flapping, just doing an occasional
"adjustment" with a slight downward movement of mostly the outer wing.

As it passed overhead I saw a very dark eagle with very prominent large
white elongated ovals in the center of the wings. The base of the tail
was white, extending over halfway down the tail, with the rest of the
tail dark. These features were very conspicuous even though the bird
was high.

A few minutes later two immature Bald Eagles soared high directly
overhead giving a good comparison with their very mottled white on the
ventral side.

I also saw 19 other Raptors, most quite high.
