Yesterday morning was very birdy in this part of Maine. Had a small flock of Yellow-rumpeds busily working the poplars with GC kinglets. All the Am. goldfinches seem to have moved on. Had one Purple (notched tail) still about yesterday, but gone today. Have seen a couple of Juncos scratching around under the feeders. The usual suspects include BC chickadees, RB nuthatches, song sparrows, jays, and H. Woodpeckers, but the nuthatches no longer outnumber the chickadees. During a bit of leaf-peeping yesterday on Route 154 near Brighton saw and heard a P. Woodpecker. On Rt. 16 outside Moscow, a noisy little ovenbird demanded some attention, so I took his picture just before my battery died. If you haven't been leaf-peeping in central Maine I strongly recommend Routes 154, 16, and 201. There are some truly spectacular sights now.
