Re: [Maine-birds] Shipwrecked Wilson's Petrel

Good story Bill.... a few years ago someone on one of the cruise ships gave
me a Leach's Storm Petrel which I released off of Seawall... Thanks for
letting us know about this bird...

Subject: [Maine-birds] Shipwrecked Wilson's Petrel

Sat. 10/20/12.
A live Wilson's Storm Petrel was found on the deck of a private yacht
(the Rising Sun, 453 ft. long, operated by a recording company owner) this
morning. It was anchored off the old Bluenose ferry terminal, quite far up
the bay although the heavy rain and southeast winds during the night most
likely brought the bird that far up the bay. The yacht was well lighted
during the night and that probably attracted the petrel. The bird was
turned over to me and it immediately flew off over the bay when released.
