Though the day is not half over, it's been surprisingly birdy here this morning. A massive flock of Common Grackles are feeding on a large platform feeder that I have rigged up less than 6" off the ground. They are eating black oil sunflower seeds and the suet hanging above. They take off, return, light, fly, repeatedly, making the moist raucous, bratty, squaling and sqeeling imaginable. I've never seen so many at once! I have had the chance to count them 3 times, there are SEVENTYFIVE!!! One immature Red Winged blackbird male in the mix. No rusties, I'v checked with great hopes.
Fox sparrow appeared on the periphery of this brawl then thought the better of it and took off. Even the Modo and Jays aren't competing.
Then, as if this wasn't enough, 7 Snow Geese flew over headed southwest. Shortly afterward, enormous flock of Canadas, nearly 200 along the horizon,,but wait, there's more!
A Sharp-shinned hawk just flew into my living room windows scaring the *)(*)(*)* right out of me! KAPOWWWW! It lumbered off, apparently humiliated, but unharmed.
Non avian, white tailed deer, doe and harbor seal
