There were several hundred Bonaparte's gulls flying and feeding in the channel between Eastport and Campobello this afternoon. I parked at the Eastport Breakwater to scan through the birds and picked out a first-winter little gull. The dark M pattern on its upper wings was much bolder than the markings on the young bonies, and it's body had a pinkish hue that was easy to see on this stormy day. I also saw two newly arrived first-winter Iceland (Kumlien's) gulls nearer to shore.
